ASB — Sensory Lighting

A bespoke lighting solution for ASB

Over five years ago, James Russ collaborated with Warren and Mahoney to develop a lighting solution specifically for the new ASB branch environment.

The brief was to create lighting that felt soft, warm and welcoming while providing the right level of illumination for customers and staff. The solution became the Sensory pendant, now being used across ASB branch refurbishments throughout New Zealand.

Designed specifically for ASB

Adapting our existing Sensory pendant, James redeveloped the Sensory system around the requirements of the ASB environment.

The colour temperature and light output were specifically engineered for the project, using specialist LED techniques to create a warm, comfortable quality of light while maintaining the illumination required for a working banking environment.

The result is a sculptural pendant with a soft, tactile presence. Its flowing stainless-steel form and gestural presense creates a gentle glow that complements the calm, residential character of the redesigned ASB spaces.

From prototype to nationwide rollout

What began as a collaborative design project with Warren and Mahoney has developed into an ongoing lighting solution for ASB, with Sensory pendants incorporated into branch refurbishments across New Zealand.

The project demonstrates how a lighting sculpture can combine artistic expression, technical innovation and practical performance at an architectural scale.

Just wanted to pass on my thanks and awesome feedback in relation to the Sensory Light installations we now have in 3 of our ASB Advice Centres (Branches) Nothing but fantastic feedback for the spaces overall and the light just really anchors these spatially for us.
