MAGNOLIA

Hei Matau Home

Magnolia is the final element that completes this architectural masterpiece in Auckland. It celebrates James's journey with glass and brass and serves as the last lighting sculpture added to the collection of unique pieces designed and crafted for this home.

As soon as you enter the space, you are captivated by the gracefully curving central staircase, which spans 9 meters. James envisioned the lighting sculpture to have a striking presence while maintaining a light and airy atmosphere. The combination of brass and glass harmonizes beautifully with the home and complements the other sculptures previously installed. A gentle taper gradually becomes evident as the arms cascade downward, culminating in a delicate branch of glass that subtly emerges on the ground floor.

Magnolia is soft and feminine, showcasing delicate branches that gracefully curve into space. Each branch supports a collection of textured glass petals that diffuse the warm white LED light concealed within. James meticulously hand-textured each glass petal, ensuring that no two are alike.

The brass has been polished and sealed to achieve a luster that seamlessly complements the home. The result is a warmth that radiates throughout each space, featuring task lighting that is both bright and fully dimmable, emitting a gentle golden glow.

To witness a design of this scale come to fruition is truly rewarding. Magnolia is a remarkable addition to James's portfolio and has taken many years to develop.
