2022
The Ti Kouka sculpture was designed back in 2020, a garden sculpture with warm white LED to wash over visitors. Unfortunately the pandemic put a stop to all production but in 2022 we were finally able to reconnect with our client, revisit their brief and adjust the concept to fit into their newly built home.
The result was a more refined version of the orginal Ti Kouka. James removed the lighting element, this was unnecessary in the new setting for this sculpture. The idea was always to incorporate New Zealand flora, to take a small element and create an abstract, organic form to reflect the natural elements surrounding this home.
Ti Kouka nestles into a carefully curated garden designed by Xanthe White and fits perfectly among the native and new planting that will grow up and around the sculpture.
Standing close to 4 metres tall, Ti Kouka is made with solid brass lengths, an internal structure and a solid brass base plate. The sculpture will weather and age as time and elements affect it. Gently curving over you, Ti Kouka has a slight shimmer of movement and will remain stoic and strong, welcoming those coming to this spectacular home for many years to come.
Proudly designed and created in NZ by James Russ.
