TOeTOe

2023

What started out as an idea to excavate a plum tree, morphed into a more subtle (although still large) flora sculpture called ToeToe.

Our client has been building and renovating their dream home, set on the side of a mountain (quite literally) and the idea was the create something large enough to have presence in the space but to let the home’s surroundings shine through. Talks of excavating a Plum tree and turning it into the feature of the space quickly shifted towards a softer (easier) approach. Using the client’s interests, the original floral design and the south Island’s natural rugged landscape James created the ToeToe Sculpture.

Toetoe has 40 brass arms seeming to grow through the ground and up into the impressive space, with hints of new growth peeking through. Toetoe stands over 4m tall and gently curves into the centre of the space with thousands of twinkling LED cascading down to illuminate this beautiful living room.

A truly one of a kind Lighting Sculpture, capturing the beauty and endurance of New Zealand’s natural environment.
