Blade — Bespoke Linear Pendant Light

Architectural lighting, made by hand

The Blade is a bespoke linear pendant light developed by James Russ in consultation with leading New Zealand architects. The idea was simple: to create a refined architectural light that could adapt to different spaces while providing excellent functional task lighting.

Its long, understated form makes Blade particularly suited to kitchen island lighting, dining spaces and larger architectural interiors. Custom lengths allow the proportions of each light to be tailored to the space rather than working around a standard-sized fitting.

Material, patina and light

Much of Blade’s character comes from the material itself. Each light is handcrafted in the James Russ Studio using metals including steel, brass, zinc, copper and stainless steel.

Rather than relying on conventional factory finishes, the metal is worked and finished by hand using a range of specialist patinas. These processes bring out the depth and natural character of the material, creating subtle variations in colour, texture and sheen.

No two hand-finished Blade lights are quite the same.

Made for the space

Blade can be made in a wide range of custom lengths and finishes, allowing each piece to respond to the architecture and materials around it.

The integrated dimmable LED system provides clean, functional task lighting, with a choice of Kelvin ratings to create anything from a warm, intimate atmosphere to a crisper architectural light.

Suspension height can also be tailored to the project, with adjustable stainless-steel cable and custom rod options available.

Each Blade is designed, handcrafted and individually finished in New Zealand by James Russ Studio. A care kit is supplied with every light, making it simple to maintain the depth and character of the hand-finished metal for years to come.

We recently had the pleasure of working with James and his team on a wonderful new light fitting to hang above our kitchen island. We are extremely pleased with the end result, the Blade light ties in with our existing kitchen and has elevated our lighting to a new level – functional and timeless with lovely clean lines.
