Atomic

Atomic is one of James Russ’ most successful lighting designs, and one that has travelled well beyond its original purpose. The work is now held in art and private collections throughout New Zealand and overseas.

The design began with a simple idea: to create a strong sculptural form from light, while retaining the practicality of a functional light. Its circular form has a quiet presence when unlit, but comes alive when illuminated.

Atomic can be used as a source of useful light or reduced to a soft, atmospheric glow. The integrated LED system gives considerable control over the character of the light without changing the simplicity of the object itself.

Each Atomic is made to order in New Zealand. The standard sizes are 600mm, 800mm, 1000mm and 1200mm, with custom sizes available up to 1500mm.

The finish can be specified in any powder-coat colour, and the light can be tuned to different Kelvin ratings to suit its surroundings. A custom RGBW version is also available for projects where colour and changing light form part of the experience.

Atomic is equally at home in a private interior, a gallery or a larger architectural setting. Its simplicity is intentional — the object remains quiet, while the light gives it its character.
