For more than 10 years, James Russ has been developing and manufacturing the technical LED lighting systems for HUSH, the award-winning acoustic pendant created by PLN Group in association with David Trubridge Design Studio. HUSH brings together light, acoustics and sculptural form in a single object. Designed to soften both the visual and acoustic environment, its lightweight acoustic structure absorbs reverberation while providing an integrated source of illumination.
LIGHTING THE HUSH
Behind the simplicity of HUSH is a carefully engineered LED system developed specifically for the pendant. James Russ has worked closely with PLN Group over the past decade to develop and refine the lighting technology, using high-performance CREE LED technology to deliver a consistent, efficient and beautifully controlled light source. The LED system is designed to sit naturally within the architecture of the HUSH pendant, allowing the light itself to remain the focus rather than the technology behind it. This combination of advanced LED performance and considered engineering has helped HUSH become a lighting product that is as technically resolved as it is visually distinctive.
A COLLABORATIVE DESIGN
HUSH was developed by PLN Group in association with David Trubridge Design Studio, bringing together expertise in workplace design, acoustics, sustainable materials and lighting. The result is more than a pendant light. HUSH creates a quieter, more comfortable environment while providing a warm and functional source of illumination. The HUSH family is available in four sizes, from Micro and Mini through to Round and Oval, allowing the system to be used above individual workstations, meeting tables, collaborative spaces and larger architectural environments.

TEN YEARS OF LIGHTING TECHNOLOGY
The relationship between James Russ and PLN Group has continued for more than a decade. During that time, the LED system has been refined alongside the development of the HUSH range, ensuring that the lighting technology remains reliable, efficient and appropriate to the evolving product. For James Russ, this is the essence of good technical lighting: technology should support the design, not compete with it. Every component, from the LED source through to the electrical system, is considered as part of the complete luminaire.
FROM NEW ZEALAND TO THE WORLD
Designed and made in New Zealand, HUSH has found an international audience across workplace, hospitality, education, healthcare and residential environments. The collaboration between PLN Group, David Trubridge Design Studio and James Russ demonstrates what can happen when industrial design and specialist lighting engineering are developed together over time. HUSH is now available internationally, including through wakaNINE in the United States.
